I regularly use cucumber 🥒 as a garnish for my cocktails/drinks. My ultimate fav is a strip of cucumber lined inside a glass. It looks so beautiful and obviously adds that super refreshing cucumber taste in your drinks. Today I stepped it up a level and invented (not sure if it’s been done before or not – so if it hasn’t yet , remember it was me that started it ok ? 😂 ) the cucumber weave / lattice and here is how I did it !
Cut the seeds out (middle section).
Make a weave like so : arrange a row of cucumber strips in one direction (with a little spacing in between) and feed other strips (perpendicularly) in an alternating ‘over and under’ fashion. Hint: don’t worry about the weave being a little loose at the beginning as it’s easy to tighten later on.
Square off the edges with a knife. The daunting part is moving this weave. Be confident and use a knife or spatula to initially lift the weave from the chopping board. Then swiftly lift it as a whole – you might think it’ll fall apart but if it’s weaved tightly enough it is very stable and handles better than you think !
Now lining the glass – Again be confident here. Start by holding the weave on your fingers/ upper part of palm (shown in previous photo) and slide your hand inside the glass. As you lay down the weave, start rotating the glass so the weave naturally rolls on (if you try to use your hands to place the weave in place, it can leave you with an uneven finish).
Now, build your drink 🍹! This one here has 30mls Hendrick’s Gin, 30mls Campari , and 4 muddled mint leaves 🍃 + pomegranate seeds (handful) – shaken then double strained into the glass (prepared with lots of ice )- finally , add a splash of soda as well as freshly squeezed lime juice (1/4 of lime )on top! Stir before drinking 🙂
Hope you guys try this cucumber weave. It might be a little time consuming but looks super cool and impressive !
